Eye Designs Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Block Party, Acts of Kindness Campaign!

Eye Designs has launched an Acts of Kindness campaign. The campaign, which will run through the end of the year, will feature 40 acts of kindness in recognition of Eye Designs’ 40th anniversary. The family-owned boutique eyewear business, which has locations in Scarsdale, Armonk and Mamaroneck, marked its 40th anniversary last month.

“We are proud and excited to kick off our 40 Acts of Kindness campaign,” said Sharon Decker, founder and co-owner of Eye Designs. “This campaign is our way of saying thank you to our customers and to our communities for their support, their friendship, and their business which have enabled us to celebrate the incredible milestone of being in business and serving Westchester residents for 40 years. Their support has meant the world to us, and now it’s our turn to support them in a special way.”

Decker and her son Harris, who is co-owner of Eye Designs, officially announced the kickoff of the Acts of Kindness campaign at Eye Designs’ 40th anniversary block party, which was held at its Scarsdale location on June 29th. More than 100 customers and area residents attended the block party, which featured music, local food trucks from Stamford’s Melt and Port Chester’s Bona Bona, a customer appreciation photo session, and special giveaways.

At the block party, Eye Designs announced its first Act of Kindness is a donation of 100 pairs of eyeglass frames to the Eastchester Lions Club. Eye Designs historically has collected used frames from the community and then donated the collected frames. Last year, it collected 1,000 used frames from the community for donation. As part of its 40 Acts of Kindness, Eye Designs is donating 100 frames from its inventory to the Lions Club.

“This is just the beginning. We will being doing acts of kindness that support the organizations, efforts, and people who mean so much to us, our family, and our business,” said Harris Decker. “Some of our acts will be announced in advance, others will be surprises for our customers and communities. All of them will demonstrate how much we appreciate them. They are our extended family.”

Eye Designs is a family business. Sharon Decker, who is a New York state licensed optician, opened the first Eye Designs, then called Eye Designs of Westchester, in Scarsdale, in June 1984. She was following the paths of her parents: her mother Gladys Mackler worked as a sales associate at local optical shops on Long Island and her father Mickey designed eyeglass stores. Her father designed the original Scarsdale location. Eye Designs expanded beyond its Scarsdale location in 1999 with the opening of a location in Armonk. The Mamaroneck location opened in 2021. Sharon’s son Harris Decker joined Eye Designs in 2014 and is now co-owner, marking the second generation of Deckers to lead Eye Designs and the third generation to work in the optical industries. Eye Designs sources all of its eyewear from independent makers in the states as well as overseas, offering customers unique styles and the latest designs.

“We’re excited for the many acts of kindness we have planned for the months ahead. And, of course, we’re proud to be starting our 41st year of Eye Designs and serving our wonderful customers and communities in Westchester,” added Sharon and Harris.
